Your Moving Questions, Answered

Straightforward, helpful answers about pricing, timelines, packing, and what to expect from your move with Cardinal Van Lines.

What’s the best time of year to schedule a move in Boynton Beach?

Late fall through early spring tends to be less crowded, which means more flexible scheduling and sometimes lower rates. Summer months (May–August) are busiest, so we recommend booking 3–4 weeks ahead during that period.

Do I need to be present during the entire move?

You don’t have to stay the whole time, but we do need someone at least 18 years old to be on-site at the start and end to review inventory and sign paperwork. Many customers pop in and out during the day.

Can you move my plants?

Most moving companies cannot transport live plants across state lines due to agricultural restrictions. For local moves within Florida, we can move small potted plants if you pack them securely. Check with your coordinator before loading day.

How do you protect my hardwood floors and carpets?

We lay down heavy-duty floor runners and corner guards at every entry point. Our crew also wears clean, soft-soled shoes and uses furniture sliders to prevent scratches or dents.

What if my elevator isn’t working on moving day?

We always have a backup plan. If the elevator is down, we assess the stairs and use padding, straps, and extra crew members to safely carry items down or up. Let us know as soon as you hear about any building issues.

Do you move items from a storage unit?

Yes — we frequently pick up from storage facilities. Just provide the unit size, location, and access details (gate code, floor, elevator or stairs), and we’ll handle the rest.

Can I add packing help after I’ve already booked?

Absolutely. You can add full or partial packing services up to 48 hours before your move, subject to crew availability. Just call your coordinator and they’ll adjust your estimate.

What happens if my closing date gets delayed?

We understand that real estate timelines shift. If your closing is delayed, we offer a 48-hour grace period to reschedule at no charge. For longer delays, we can store your loaded truck at a reduced daily rate.

Do you move large appliances like washers, dryers, and refrigerators?

Yes, we move most major appliances. We disconnect, drain, and prep refrigerators and washing machines according to manufacturer guidelines. Note: gas connections must be handled by a licensed technician before we arrive.

How do you handle very narrow staircases or tight hallways?

Our crews carry a full set of tools for partial disassembly — we can remove railings, take legs off furniture, or pivot items through tight spaces. If an item truly won’t fit, we’ll discuss alternatives before forcing anything.

What’s your policy on tips for the moving crew?

Tipping is never required but always appreciated. If you feel the crew did excellent work, the industry standard is $20–$40 per mover for a half-day move or $40–$60 per mover for a full day. You can tip in cash, via Venmo, or add it to your final invoice.

Can you move my car or motorcycle?

We specialize in household goods, not auto transport. However, we can refer you to trusted vehicle shipping partners we’ve vetted. Just ask your coordinator for a referral.

Do you provide boxes and packing supplies if I want to pack myself?

Yes — we sell high-quality moving boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, and tape separately. You can order them online through our supply shop or pick them up at our warehouse a week before your move.

What should I do with valuables like jewelry, cash, or important documents?

We strongly recommend moving jewelry, cash, passports, medical records, and irreplaceable items yourself — either in your personal vehicle or carried with you. Our crews cannot be held responsible for unlisted valuables.

How do you handle moves during bad weather like heavy rain or heat waves?

We monitor forecasts closely. For rain, we bring tarps, plastic wrap, and extra padding to keep everything dry. For extreme heat, crews take more frequent breaks and stay hydrated — your move might take slightly longer, but safety comes first.

Can you move my firearm or gun safe?

We can move unloaded firearms that are properly cased and declared in advance. Gun safes are moved like any other heavy item — we use dollies, straps, and a lift gate if needed. You must be present to secure any weapons before we load.

What if I have more stuff than I estimated?

It happens! If your inventory is larger than expected, we’ll pause and recalculate. You can either add a second truck, make a second trip, or upgrade to a larger crew size on the spot. We’ll never leave items behind without discussing options first.

Do you offer discounts for seniors, students, or military members?

Yes — we offer 10% off for active military, veterans, and seniors (65+), and 5% off for students with a valid .edu email. Just mention your status when you request your quote.

Can I ride in the moving truck with my belongings?

For insurance and safety reasons, only our licensed crew members are allowed inside the truck during transit. You’ll follow behind in your own vehicle or meet us at the destination.

How soon can I book if I’m moving next week?

We always keep a small number of last-minute slots open. Call our dispatch line directly — if we have availability, we can usually get you scheduled within 3–7 days, sometimes sooner for smaller moves.
